🌿 Today nightʼs Nitai Gunjan took me in my heart to a fortunate jiva’s house in another universe where Nitai had come today morning, when He goes door to door daily. All the family members were absorbed in pure love and calling out Nitainam. One soul among them was so ecstatic and blissful shouting Nitainam that he was repeating a verse with the same mood as Shrila Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami’s emana nirghrina verse. Then his anticipation increased so much that he reached the house where Nitai was being worshiped tonight in that universe. And then I could see Nitai’s glorious form and His worship by His associates in that house, just by listening to and doing Nitai Gunjan together. My fruit and vegetable diet for the past couple of weeks is paying off. There were so many other realizations.
🌿 When I looked at the tall trees while listening and doing Nitai Gunjan below them in our courtyard, I started shouting and wailing so loudly. I suddenly became so much conscious of their unlimited suffering to near oblivion in those tree bodies and in their previous bodies. I remembered Vasudev Dutta’s prayers to Gauranga. I could feel a tiny drop of how much pain he was feeling seeing the suffering of zillions of souls in this one universe. I realized that the cause of feeling this enhanced compassion for the tree species was the direct contact of Nitai’s infinitely compassionate heart by the sound of Nitai Gunjan. :sob: Tears were rolling on the two sides of my cheeks as I entered the house.
🌿 Q. Please donʼt impose on me Nitaitattva.
Nitaitattva is also the opinion of our Shastras and Acharyas, not someoneʼs personal opinion. Srila Narottam das Thakur has compassionately imposed it universally on all of us for our own benefit that without Nitai no one can ever get Gaura Radha Krishna, and without Nitainam we are sure to fall into sense-gratification, which will take us far away from Harinam-ruchi. All spiritual masters would agree and be pleased if we implement these important instructions of his too. It complements never contradicts the instructions of our other Guruvarga.
🌿 Q. Does the jiva have to first establish a relationship with Nitai Baladeva before he can have a relationship with Krishna? And is this always the case?
A. Yes, this is always the case and there is no other way for a jiva to enter any of the five rasas:
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada states in Krishna Kathamrita:
“Srimati, however, accepts the offer of service of only those souls who are specially favored by Nityananda and are deemed by Him to be fit for Her service. There is, therefore a most intimate relationship between the function of Nityananda and that of Srimati which is at once supplementary and inclusive of the former.”
“Individual souls are under the directions of Nityananda. They receive their service of Sri Gaurasundara i.e. of Krsna, at His hands. Nityananda is not a jiva. He is Divinity. He is the ultimate source of the jiva. The jiva is a potency of Nityananda. No jiva can be the medium of the service of the Absolute to another jiva. The Absolute alone may communicate. His service to the separable constituents of Himself.”
The above quote also shows how our own Srila Gurudeva, who is an empowered jiva-tattva alone is not enough. Every Guruʼs ultimate prerogative is to introduce us to Nitatattva, so that Radharani accepts us eventually.
🌿 Q. I have one personal question about the Svarup issue. I feel very strong inclination to Vatsalya. I find it easy to even envision Damodara Lila. Should I cultivate this mood or am i incorrect?
A. According to Hari Nam Chintamani, until you cross nishta and reach mantradhyanmayi through ruchi, asakti and bhava, our present inclinations are at best shadows or abhasa, which may have arisen from our material conditioning from the past millions of births, including this birth. So our present inclinations towards a particular rasa may not be related all to our actual svarupa.
This is also what separates us from those who tell others to do sahaja bhakti and start thinking of whatever we like as our svarupa even in our conditioned stage, via the ascending path. Besides, if we conclude that this and this is my rasa before Nam Prabhu actually reveals and shows it to us in truth, then it is maryada langhana. Then Nam Prabhu may not reveal us our real svarupa due to that, as we have already assumed it according to our own likings. Why do we need Namsphurti (svayam eva sphuraty adah) then?
Not all glimpses may be conditioning though. If after crossing ruchi, asakti and bhava, those inclinations persist and become more natural, spontaneous and clearer, only then they can be accepted as the real thing. When our real rasa will be revealed before us by Nam, we will know that it is THE thing. There will be no doubt. So we should patiently keep our heart open to Nam’s and Nitai’s mercy till then and not close that chance by deciding ourselves and offending Nam Prabhu. This is why dhairya or patience is so important in sadhana via the descending path of mercy and revelation.
